Obituary of Carrie Eloise Thompkins

Carrie Eloise Thompkins, of Richmond, VA (formerly of Amelia, VA), entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at the age of 79. Carrie was born on February 2, 1943 to the late Homer Jameson Thompkins, Sr. and Frances Archer Thompkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother (Homer Jr), and a favorite grand niece (Amari Jeter). 

 

Carrie joined Mount Herman Presbyterian Church in Amelia at an early age. She later moved her membership to Oak Grove Presbyterian Church where she served as a faithful attending member until the start of the pandemic. 

 

Carrie graduated from Russell Grove High School in Amelia, VA in 1961. After graduation from high school, she went to Virginia State College, now University, and in 1966 she completed her studies. She proudly entered the teaching profession and taught in several public schools including Portsmouth, Blackstone, and Richmond. After thirty (30) years of service to students, she retired from Richmond City Public Schools. 

 

Carrie leaves precious memories to her sister Joyce Medley. She leaves three nephews, Derek Thompkins, Leonard Medley III (Tiffany), Eric Medley (Jan); three nieces, Krystal Thompkins, Michelle Medley, Karrol Bates (Robert). She is also survived by great nephews, Eric Jr., Jalen, Jacobi, Leonard IV Medley, and Keenan Wittman; great nieces, Janiya and Alana Medley, Cameryn and Kenya Bates; Goddaughter, Kristin Brown Lewis; Sister-in-law, Eleanor Thompkins. Although Carrie had no biological children of her own, she lovingly cared for and reared two daughters, LaShaunda Albert-Mills (Seria) and Banita Merriweather. Special family and friends include LaVerne Johnson, Iris Eppes, Doreatha and Nathan Jarvis, Annie Wilson, and Juanita Clanton. She leaves many cousins and other friends too numerous to name. 

 

The children in her life were her pride and joy. She gave generously to all– money, goodies, and most of all her unconditional love.

 

 The family wishes to thank the owners and caretakers of The Clifton House (Amelia, VA) for the special attention, love, and kind services provided for Carrie during her stay.
