Please share a memory of De’Jhan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CHEEK, De’Jhan Maurice, 23, departed from this physical realm on October 27, 2021.
De’De’, as he was affectionately nicknamed, graduated with honors in 2016 from John Marshall High School (Richmond), where he excelled in his love of basketball as a member of the varsity team, enjoyed creating art and was inducted into the National Honors society. He went on to graduate from Old Dominion University (Norfolk) in 2020, earning his Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Cyber Security.
A dedicated son, De’Jhan spent countless hours with his Mom, walking, cooking and having deeply profound conversations about life and spirituality. He enjoyed hanging out with his Dad and siblings, playing board games and having a good laugh! De’De’ loved to game online, and also spent many days on the court, shooting hoops with his brother Raymont and other friends. He thoroughly enjoyed music and recorded several songs, expressing himself through lyrical poetry. A counselor to many, De’Jhan’s smile, wisdom and infectious personality touched all that were blessed to have him in their lives.
De’Jhan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clenford Cheek, Sr. and Dorothy B. Cheek, whom he loved very dearly. He is survived by his devoted parents, Arthur LeShawn Carter and Kimberly Cheek, six brothers; Raymont Lynch, Kameron Cheek, Justin Holmes, DeQuion, Kameron, and Chase Carter, nine sisters; Briahna Lynch, Jazmine and Jada Cheek, Kia and Daysia Simmons, Aunajha, Precious, Tylasia and Zariah Carter, his loving paternal grandparents, Arthur L. Carter, Jr. and Maxine White Carter, 3 nephews,1 niece, and a host of Uncles, Aunts and cousins.
There are no words that can adequately express how deeply De’De’ will be missed. His legacy will live on through those he inspired and his light will transcend beyond his time on earth.
