Lawrence (Speedy) Edward Falls, 71, of Amelia passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Falls.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wanda Phillip Falls of Amelia Va; two children and their spouses, Jason and Tiffany Falls of Powhatan Va, and Adam and Brandy Falls of Amelia Va; sister, Debbie Bogan of Harrisonburg Va; Three grandchildren, Jessie Lynn Falls of Midlothian Va, Stephenie Falls of Amelia, and Adam Falls Jr. of Amelia Va.
Speedy was born in Harrisonburg Va on April 4,1948. In 1971, when he was 21 years old, he moved to Amelia, where he resided the rest of his life. He worked for Anderson Lumber Company as a fork lift operator and front-end older for 38 years until his retirement. Speedy always walked to work and her derived his nickname from how fast he walked. He always did everything fast.
Speedy loved to fish and he was an avid fan of the Washington Red Skins and NASCAR, particularly Richard Petty and Jimmy Johnson. His true joy was Amelia parks & Rec. He volunteered in many ways including field maintenance, clean-up crew and working the chain gang for football games. He donated his time no matter what was needed and was widely known as the “Unofficial Sports Mascot” for Amelia. A few years ago, Speedy was given a plaque from ACHS designating him as Amelia’s #1 Fan.
