Obituary of Beatrice Mitchell Johnson

We face one of life’s most difficult moments of life, the loss of someone so very special to all of us.

Beatrice Jean Mitchell-Johnson left this earthly life greatly and peacefully on May 12, 2023, in Duluth, Georgia.  She was born on January 22, 1944, to the late Woodrow and Lucille Micheaux Mitchell in Amelia, Virginia.  She joined Little Bethel Baptist Church at an early age, and was educated at Russell Grove High School, now Amelia County High School.

“Tootsie” as she was affectionately called was employed as a nurse for over 40 years.  She loved to read, cook, dance, and boss her family and friends around.  She was a devoted grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Tootsie was the matriarch of our family. 

“Tootsie” was preceded in death by her son, Joey Johnson; grandson, Cinque’ T. Johnson; brothers, Robert “Billy”, Johnny, Henry, and Frankie; sisters, Sandra Jefferson, and Shirley Scott.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, her children, Wanda J, Kendall L., Tasha L., Matthew A., and Travis K. Johnson; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Brenda M. Booker, and Pamela Mitchell; brothers-in-law, James Scott, Clinton Booker,Alphonso Jefferson; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a host of devoted friends.
